This plot is a floodplain woods plot. It has a very thick understory layer with many shrubs not found in other habitats (Dirca palustris, Staphylea trifolia, Halesia carolina, etc...). The canopy layer is mostly Platanus occidentalis with Juglans nigra also being very common. Closer to the water the tree layer is mostly Platanus occidentalis and Betula nigra. Carpinus caroliniana is a very common element of the understory layer along the water as well as within the woods.;This plot is in a floodplain woods.
